Ten Minute Warmup The Legacy Continues……

Wade in the Water-Traditional

Mark-vocals Roger-electric and acoustic guitar Emma-bass Bill-drums

Wade in the Water is a traditional negro spiritual. Though origins are unsure, the lyrics have been considered by many as being instructions to slaves escaping their pursuers during the civil war to wade in the water to avoid the bloodhounds. Our favorite versions have been Eva Cassidy's and that of the Connexion Band at Forest Chapel United Methodist Church in Cincinnati , Ohio .

Choices-Roger Wright

Roger and Mark-vocals Roger-acoustic Emma-bass Bill-drums

Roger's story of hard work, discipline, family and prayer describes several vignettes of success and failure in America . Of particular note is the fourth verse which is a tribute to his late father, Pete Wright, a Ford UAW member who worked hard every day building cars to support his family. Pete was living proof that you “can be anything you want to in America if you work real hard and take time to pray”.

First Kiss-lyrics/Emma Wright music-Roger Wright

Roger and Mark-vocals Roger-acoustic Emma-bass Bill-drums

Emma brought this song to Roger when she was 17. At first blush it appears to be a teenager's song about first love. But it is actually the continuing story of love as it matures during a lifetime. She won't confess to the fact it is about anyone special but we all know that it describes anyone who has ever been in love.

Dance-Roger Wright

Mark and Roger-vocals Roger-electric Emma-bass Bill-drums

Mark asked Roger to learn a Brian Setzer song. Instead, he decided to write his own. He always describes Dance as a cross between Setzer and Los Lonely Boys. However you describe it, it rocks and you had better get out of your chair when you listen to it.

Can't Take You Back-Roger Wright

Roger and Mark-vocals Roger-acoustic Emma-bass Bill-drums

So many folks only live in the past. While there may have been some good old days worth reminiscing about, they are just that…good old days. You can't go back. And you had better enjoy those you who love you now because they can't take you back either.

I Walk the Line-Johnny Cash

Mark and Roger-vocals Mark-acoustic Roger-electric Emma-bass Bill-drums

TMW's homage to the man in black. Played over minor chords and with a badboy rockin' attitude, we believe our version still brings the spirit of Johnny Cash to life. We wish he could have heard our rendition.

Speak to Me-Mark Ficks

Mark-Vocals Roger-acoustic Emma-bass Bill-drums

Struggling with his relationship with God and organized religion, Mark wrote this great ballad about his journey to find his way. Mark has performed this with TMW, the Overflow Band and solo at a number of churches across the Midwest . It always evokes an emotional response.

Mama's Fallen-The Ficks Men, Bill, Scott and Mark

Mark and Emma vocals Mark electric guitar Roger bass Bill percussion

Cameo vocal by Mathew Thorton

On the album Mark briefly explains the medical adventures of his mother, Carol Ficks. Carol is also Bill's wife, Roger's sister, Peter and Emma's aunt, Scott's mom and Janis' sister-in-law. And why does that matter? Because all of those folks have been involved in Carol's emergency medical care. From sitting in a Las Vegas emergency room with a Sigreid imposter to emergency surgery in Goshen , Indiana , Carol's crashes have become an integral part of the TMW story. If VH1 does the rockumentary, we will ask them to include xrays of the many pins, screws and plates in her body.

Ain't No Need to Cry-Madison's Song

Mark-acoustic and vocals Emma-bass Bill-drums

Every father of a little girl faces the impossible task of figuring out how to make her happy and safe. And he wants her to constantly feel loved. This is Mark's effort to explain his feelings as he traverses that maze of emotions.

Turn the Page-Bob Seger

Courtesy of Gear Publishing Co.

Mark-vocals and acoustic, Roger-electric, Emma-bass, Bill-very loud drums

Since our beginning in 2003, we have ended almost every show with this Seger power ballad. Anyone who has ever performed on a rock and roll stage gets this song. Seger put into words why we play.
